Meet Our Instructors

Fitness Studio Owner, Strength Training, Core and Stretch Instructor at Joy of Fitness, Silver Spring MD
Shannon is a nationally certified fitness instructor with a decade of experience working in the fitness industry. She specializes in total body conditioning for beginner to intermediate exercisers. Her signature fitness class combines strength training protocols, cardio fitness, ab/core work and stretching with eclectic world music. She's an effusive instructor who makes students feel welcome immediately and is your best fitness advocate 
ensuring everyone gets an excellent workout.

 

Shannon loves to travel and 

explore, hike, play board games and poker with her family and chill out with a good book and glass of wine. Most of all, she loves to share her passion for living a healthy and active life style and wholeheartedly 

believes in the power of physical activity has to build healthy bodies and big smiles!

Bridget is an RRCA certified running coach dedicated to helping you achieve your running goals.

 

After moving to Washington, DC from Florida, she joined local run groups as a way to meet people and explore her new city.  Running quickly became more than just a social activity for her, and grew into a passion that provided physical and spiritual growth.  Within one year, she completed the Honolulu and Chicago marathons, and 5 half marathons in DC, Florida, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. To date, Bridget has participated in at least 40 half marathons, 10K and 5K runs/races in 10 states and she is well on the way to accomplishing her goal of running in all 50 states.

Bridget’s coaching philosophy focuses on a healthy mind, body and soul with a particular emphasis on life balance – making time for a diverse, well-balanced lifestyle.  She believes that there is a direct correlation between the time and effort a person puts into training and what they experience during the journey of training.

 

Bridget loves to travel and explore cultures and cuisines from around the world.  Bridget’s compassion is evident through her many volunteering efforts with

community, youth and running programs.

Efua is an RRCA certified running coach committed to helping and encouraging you to move on a daily basis with slow-yet-determined incremental increases in time, speed and/or distance to improve your capacity to run. She is dedicated to helping you achieve your running goals.

 

Efua has several half marathons, marathons, 10Ks, 5Ks and other races under her belt. Loving to travel and run, she has decided to combine the two loves by running 50 half marathons in all 50 states. 

 

 

 

AMY BOCCARDI, ZUMBA® 

Zumba Instructor Joy of Fitness Group Fitness Studio, Silver Spring, MD
Amy was born and raised in New York, but has called the DMV home for over twenty years. Amy is passionate about education, as both a student and a teacher, and has worked in DC Public Schools for 18 years. That passion for teaching and learning carries over into her other love- health and wellness. So becoming a certified Zumba instructor was a natural meshing of these two areas of her life.
 

As a single, working mom with two kids, Amy learned that work/life balance isn't always easy, but exercise and healthy living are essential to taking care of herself and her family.  Additionally, every day Amy is learning to love life and appreciate the small things. She enjoys cooking, writing, reading, gardening, dancing in the kitchen, and being outdoors.

 
She is excited to bring her enthusiasm for living a active and healthy lifestyle, along with her teaching prowess and compassionate listening to every class.

 

 

 

KIM GREENE, CIZE LIVE

An avid aerobics enthusiast, Chelsey has sampled a variety of dance and dance aerobics styles including Zumba, Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Barre, and most recently, ZOCA.  Through ZOCA, Chelsey was exposed to the irresistible world of Soca, Reggae, and African pop rhythms and choreography.  She became a regular attendee of ZOCA classes and events and earned her instructor certification in July 2015 after enthusiastic encouragement from her fellow Zocanistas!  Chelsey is excited to bring ZOCA to its first Silver Spring location, Joy of Fitness.
Cize Live Instructor Joy of Fitness Group Fitness Studio, Silver Spring, MD
Kim first put on a pair of dance shoes at age four and hasn’t stopped dancing ever since!  When the opportunity arose to become certified as a CIZE Live instructor, she jumped at it since she loves to find ways to make fitness fun for everyone!  Kim is originally from Florida, but has called Maryland home for the last twelve years.  Kim has always enjoyed dancing and music (she plays four instruments!) so rhythm comes naturally to her. She is super excited to bring this new style of teaching dance fitness to Joy of Fitness- giving everyone the opportunity to learn to dance and become healthier while doing so!

Marie began her fitness journey when she first encountered Zumba in 2006 and was immediately hooked. Starting with her first Zumba certification in 2011, she has held numerous certifications including ACE Group Exercise, PiYo, and Turbokick. Marie has a PhD in muscle physiology, and is currently working as a post-doctoral fellow at Children’s National Medical Center researching muscular dystrophy.

PiYo® is a unique total-body conditioning workout inspired by yoga and Pilates with upbeat music and a constant flow of moves. This low-impact, high-energy workout is suitable for all fitness levels. It’s a rhythmic, dynamic, and intense workout designed to improve your strength, core, balance, and flexibility all in one invigorating workout!  Marie is thrilled to bring this class to Joy of Fitness.

CHAD SNYDER, H.I.I.T & P90X LIVE

Chad is an ACE-certified Group Fitness Instructor who has a true passion for health and fitness. He is certified in P90X Live and Insanity Live, and in Tabata Bootcamp.  Chad has a black belt in taekwondo and cannot wait to bring Core de Force MMA-inspired workouts to Joy of Fitness!  His goal is to provide safe, effective classes that are challenging and fun for individuals of all levels of fitness.  He strives to help people find their own drive for success and wants to inspire others to become the very best person they can be in every aspect of life.  Chad is an energetic, positive trainer who wants to make every class a fun, exciting experience!

Chad was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and went to school in Boston, MA before moving to Maryland.  Chad is an animal lover and helped to start a dog rescue in the Washington, DC area.  He currently lives in Olney, Maryland with his wife Dallas, two Shiba Inus, and two cats, who keep him constantly on the move!
